When you connect your toaster to the internet, your toaster becomes vulnerable because it inherits all the security vulnerabilities of the network. So nothing on the internet is “truly” secure.

We merely assume that the product we use is hack-proof because it does not have a label that reads “Your product is hackable.”

What the US government is demanding apple to do is shatter that illusion, to publicly announce that every phone is hackable and they (the govt.) hold the key. T

his is unethical and quite literally a double edged sword… because it creates 2 doors for a hacker to hack the internet device in question:

  1. by reverse engineering the device
  2. by hacking the owners of the new backdoor created by its creators

and we all know which one is the easy option.
