False Calm

One Hundred Word Story #29

Their therapist’s homework was for her to listen. With his head on her lap, he recounted his love’s ebb and flow. “I keep forgetting,” he said. “Why do I forget?” The polarity of this push and pull amazed him.

The tender touch of his palm to his own chest struck her, echoing the self-absorbed nature of his unexplainable, unrecognizable love. No one cared about this but her.

He forced his dreams down her throat. She searched for the strength to scream them out.
