I Want a Lego Pirate Ship
Jetta Rae

My family, immigrants to a new country, were hard working but poor in the 90s when I was a kid. Every Christmas and birthday I would receive just one gift from my parents who would of saved for it over the months before. The toys over the years included Monster in my Pocket figures, Mighty Max sets, Kenner’s Aliens action figures. a BB Gun, and yes, I did receive a Lego Pirates Skull’s Eye Schooner on Christmas 1993. I remember all the toys I received were part of a ongoing deal my parents had with me to do better at school and sport. Needless to say I was a constant disappointment to my parents. — we found out years later I had early mental development delays as a child. Toys were my true escape from a scary world.
