Why I’m Feeling Alienated from the GOP
Republican leadership had been promising, if elected they would REPEAL Obamacare. I had so much hope when Donald Trump was elected, even though he would have been last on my list of candidates. Instead of taking advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity, it feels they are squandering the chance to fix real issues. Now that they have gained control of Congress and the Presidency they are boasting a “Repeal and Replace.” Replace? I don’t want Obamacare replaced. I don’t want the Federal government involved at all. The states should be in charge of healthcare and education. The Federal government wasn’t granted the control in the Constitution [10th Amendment], so the states are automatically given that responsibility. The reason I feel alienated, it’s simple. The lack of seriousness from Paul Ryan and other GOP leaders to actually pass a bill that their base wanted. I’ve shopped around at third parties and the best fit to my values was the Constitution Party. I want to like the libertarians but the parties' stance on drugs and lackluster candidates has kept me away. I’m 2 years from being able to vote, so I’m actively trying to find a place where I fit. For the most part it’s the GOP but their ineptitude when in control is becoming more and more of a force to drive me away.
UPDATE: Mitch McConnell has delayed the vote for the new health care bill until after the July 4th recess. I hope they scrap the entire plan and repeal Obamacare. This is extremely unlikely. On govtrack.us they give the alternative bill, that is to repeal Obamacare, a 1% chance of passing. 1%!! They were elected to do this. We must hold the GOP leadership responsible.
