You’re so right on here, but hey, saying that (right on) is probably a ‘Boomer’ old age give-away. “Never trust anyone over age 30”, attributed to John Lennon has seemingly morphed into an unflinchingly embraced, mass-mob zeitgeist and as you say, it’s really not so funny. I’m not sure if there has ever been any culture in human history that has so worshipped youth, except as warm bodies to be sent to war, as the one we currently occupy. Not all of us want to retire at age 40 or 50 or even 60, even if we can switch gears to volunteer instead of paid work. The older you get, the less relevance age has as you seek out soul mates and sympatico life views. Yet, age discrimination does seem to be at an all time high. Artists seem to be among the very few whose work continues to be appreciated, even as they age — think Georgia O’Keeffe, Elie Wiesel and more . . . I’m thankful for that but as for the rest of us, that’s cold comfort.
I’ve seen a lot of age discrimination, so some of this is funny, but then not really so funny.
