About a year ago, I began my quest to learn to code. Not being exactly sure where to start, I found myself doing what everybody does now a days, Googling “How to code” on Google and came across many different answers.

Many of the top results were websites that offered free and paid courses to teach individuals how to code.

Meaning you don’t even need to spend a ton of money or put yourself in debt to learn how to code now a days.

That being said here are six of the top websites to learn how to code for free:

Codecademy Codecademy is indisputably the most famous website to teach you to code interactively, thanks to its helpful interface and well-structured courses. Learn Javascript, HTML, CSS, Python and more.

Free Code Camp Learn to code and build projects for nonprofits. Build your full stack web development portfolio today. Learn to code, meet other coders, build projects that help non-profits.

Code.org Code.org is a non-profit organization and eponymous website led by Hadi Partovi that aims to encourage people, particularly school students in the United States, to learn computer science. Introductory coding lessons, designed for k-12 students.

CodeSchool.com– Learn to code in the comfort of your browser with video tutorials, programming challenges, and screencasts. Learn HTML/CSS, Ruby, JavaScript.

CodeCombat Learn programming with a multiplayer live coding strategy game for beginners. Learn Python or JavaScript as you defeat ogres, solve mazes, and level up. Introductory coding lessons, in the form of a fantasy RPG.
