Yes, she certainly may not have intended these meanings, but there are many Americans who do interpret it this way. People think we are the greatest country in the world—and many have never visited another. She could have used "great" instead, and had the same impact without opening this little can of worms.

It seems I might not have been clear enough in where I stand, though: This was just a tiny tiny flaw (from my perspective) in an incredibly inspiring speech. Michelle is totally an amazing role model—I completely agree! And I absolutely view the world through her same positive, hopeful lens.
