The Art of Being Pisces

The artist’s search for self-expression

Pisces is the most turbulent, profound and responsive of the Water signs.

The notion of the tortured, starving, misunderstood, more-than-half-crazy artist unfortunately fits the logic of why so many Pisces find their way into the arts — or long to give up their boring, mundane jobs in the commercial rat-race and lose themselves altogether in their world of fantasy and imagination.

There, life makes sense for Pisces in ways the world of reality doesn’t. Never mind that they’re usually sitting at a table for one — because the rest of us just can’t go there, or spend time, or be comfortable … or have it mean much, to be honest.

Pisces is … different, and this is one of the ways. The surreal world of their inner landscape means something significant to them in ways most of us just can’t grasp. For one thing, it offers a sanctuary from a material world that is too callous and ruthless, too obsessed with things that don’t matter, too disconnected and boring — a world that is literally too crazy for Pisces and his spiritual values to handle. So these souls pull away, go inward, and usually find they are happier there.

If this sounds precariously like going insane, I can’t argue. Insanity is associated more with Pisces than any other Zodiac sign. There are reasons for this — but that’s a topic for later.
