Diamonds

She looked at me and said
“My darling, where have the diamonds in your eyes gone? You used to sparkle.”
I was taken back by her odd observation
I felt something different about me recently, in my spirit
But I was oblivious to the notion that it could possibly be shown through my eyes
Keeping my constant frown, I looked past her and whispered
“I knew long ago, that when he gave me those diamonds, he would taken them with him when he left.”
She looked at me with weary eyes
“But dear, don’t you see, you have to create and nurture your own diamonds.”
She was strong. She knew that, so did everyone else around her
No one asked if she was alright though, for this she was grateful
It allowed her time and silence to heal
When dusk fell upon the town, she would rest her eyes
Only briefly, Soon to be awaken by the sunrise,
With sorrowful eyes
Dreams tend to be better than any reality,
But hers was more distraught than anything
