Skatemill — the Beast
Hey guys, my name is Anton Walch and I am Skating and Skills Coach for EC Red Bull Salzburg. I am working at the Red Bull Academy in Liefering, Salzburg and also train the Under-14 team of the Red Bulls. It is my xx year now, working in Salzburg and trying to learn the prospects the best way of skating. How I do this you ask? Well, we use the beast. Dig in and find out more!
Players at the Red Bull academy are used to all kind of training regimes on and off the ice. When we use special tools for our prospects, they have immediately respect - the Skatemill in the Skating/Shooting Center is on hell of training equipment.
It sits there on the ground, covered around with a plastic ice surface and hide the pure power of a 21 horsepower engine, ready to accelerate the guys on skates up to 30 km/h! Yes, hard to believe that an athlete can skate on a machine like a running treadmill, with their skates on…
The pure facts: surface size 2,50m x 2,50m, the player protected with a harness tied to a security system on the ceiling to avoid any kind of an injury! The speed from one to 30 km/h with a nice teaser of a decline mode, which allows lowering the rear to 10 degrees into the ground. And all of a sudden, we talk about a mountain climb!
It´s the secret and wisdom of the skating coach what it meant to be :), but for sure, the player sprints as hard as he can, not to vanish into the basement.
The Skatemill helps you to improve your skating technique and challenge everyone in stickhandling and shooting while moving the skates. The real deal for hockey is to synchronize two independent systems in your body - the skating motion and the quick hands to control the puck… Let´s call it, “hands like feet”!
These are facts to earn the respect and the passion of the hockey players to accept the challenge to pursue the excellence or to be a bull rider and feel the hell of a ride!
Skatemill stories?! There is more to come…
