I Don’t Have Time To Be Great! Who Are You Fooling?

When you feel that you don’t have enough time to do the things that will bring greatness to your life, I call that “treadmill syndrome”. You’re doing all this “work” but you are still at the same spot where you started.

Treadmill Syndrome

We all live by the same clock of having 24 hours in the day available to us. Fortunately, there are 168 hours in a week, after deducting the average sleep of 7 hours a day, and the average work schedule of 40 hours a week, you are left with 79 hours a week. You can see amazing progression with just dedicating 4 hours a day, which is 28 hours a week leaving you with now 51 hours. You could sleep another week off at 7 hours a day and still have 2 hours of time for your week. In a nutshell, YOU DO HAVE TIME TO BE GREAT.

STEPS TO UTILIZE YOUR FREE TIME TO BE GREAT

We are so programmed to always be on “GO” mode and move 300mph through our day and this my friend is a bit of a problem. If I am waving a piece of paper that has your attention and you want to read it, what are you going to tell me to do with it? Hold it STILL right? Well that’s the same thing we need to do from day to day in our lives, have moments of STILLNESS.

Typical Day In The Life On “GO” Mode

When we block out time to have our moments of stillness, we attract the element of CLARITY. Having clarity in our lives is so underrated and is one of the main reasons why many people will answer with “IDK” when asked about their purpose in life. We are humans not computers, and believe it or not, humans are TERRIBLE at “multi-tasking” which is why we need our quiet moments to really focus and establish our plan to be great.

People may think it’s corny, but I live by the journal. I document my daily progress and most importantly, I write down my goals to make them tangible achievements that I want in my life. What good is the world’s most beautiful painting if your brush never touched the canvas and the idea only lived in your mind. I was once one of the too many who always kept goals and tasks in their head only to forget about them and never hold myself accountable to get them done. I prefer the “old school” method with actually writing on paper because it has a different magic to it as oppose to just typing on a computer screen but hey that’s just me. Stop for a second and pick a time this week that you will hold yourself accountable to set aside time to write/type the following:

  1. What do I really want out of life?
  2. What is my purpose/calling in life?
  3. What are 10 goals that I can achieve in 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, or 1 decade? (It’s nice to have a balance of short and long term goals)
  4. What is the one thing that I can start doing NOW to make progress on my goal(s)

Identify Your Priorities

This is so so so important and I feel we often look at all of our tasks as if they were in the “do it when can” bin. When you look at your goals, break them down into tasks you need to do in order to acheive that goal. Once you have that done mark the tasks that are the most important with a symbol of your choice, I like to use !’s to stress the importance and urgency. Once you establish your most important tasks to acheive your goal, focus on the ONE most important one you need to get done first. As Gary Keller would say, “Until your #1 priority is accomplished, everything else is a distraction”.

Lastly

Team Work Makes The Dream Work

I can’t stress this last thought enough. “A Person Is Known By The Company They Keep”. Stay around positive people who share a common interest in being great with you. This is the main reason why I created this blog. I want to be a part of your journey with sharing advice and personal experiences that have me sitting in the current situation that I’m in AND I want to learn new things from you as well. It’s all about growing and giving back !

YOU OWE YOURSELF HAPPINESS, BUT IT WON’T COMING KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR. YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO CREATE YOUR BLUEPRINT TO GREATNESS. AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU ARE ONLY FOOLING YOURSELF, NO ONE ELSE IF YOU FAKE THE FUNK OF BEING “SUPER SUCCESSFUL” ON SOCIAL MEDIA :)

If you’ve made it this far to read this ….. I truly THANK YOU for taking your valuable time to read this.
