Endless War and Regime Change — The Anti-War Movement is Dead
Here is an excerpt of testimony before congress by from former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton:
“We also have a history of, kind of moving in and out of Pakistan. Let’s remember here, the people we are fighting today, we funded twenty years ago. And we did it, because we were locked in this struggle with the Soviet Union. They invaded Afghanistan. We did not want to see them control central Asia. And … we went to work. And it was President Reagan, in partnership with congress, lead by democrats, who said you know what, sounds like a pretty good idea. Let’s deal with the ISI, and the Pakistani military, and let’s go recruit these Mujahideen, great, let’s get some to come from Saudi Arabia and other places, importing their Wahabi brand of Islam, so that we can go beat the Soviet Union. And guess what, they retreated. They lost billions of dollars, and it lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union. So there’s ah, a very strong argument, which is, it wasn’t a bad investment to end the Soviet Union, but let’s be careful what we sow because what we will harvest. So we then left Pakistan. We said okay fine, you deal with the Stingers (missiles) we left all over your country. You deal with the mines (land mines) that are along the border. And by the way, we don’t want anything to do you, in fact we are sanctioning you. So, we stop dealing with the Pakistani military, and with ISI, and we now are making up for a lot of lost time. ”

You can find the videos of these statement by Mrs. Clinton on youtube, just search “Hillary Clinton admits US government created Al-qaeda”.
While I’m sure many of Team Blue are feeling a sense of anger and indignation rising at me, using these words by Mrs. Clinton, but let’s remember underneath her testimony, is was Texas Democrat Charlie Wilson that led that effort to support the Mujahideen, played out in the dark comedy Charlie Wilson’s War. And former Democrat congressman from Texas, Martin Frost said, “Hollywood didn’t embellish the story of Wilson’s efforts to help Afghan mujahedin fight the Soviets in the 1980s — if anything, the filmmakers toned the story down.”
Rather than re-building our crumbling infrastructure, Democrats, and Republicans alike, would rather fight another war or topple a regime they don’t like (i.e. that won’t bow to US imperialist demands). The Orville Dam in California, the poisoning of our fellow citizens in Flint, as well as over 2000 other water systems across this country that are contaminated by lead and other toxic / lethal contaminates, is just the latest examples of such blatant hypocrisy.
In my opinion, I think Republicans like war because it’s profitable for their business constituents, but Democrats like war because it’s a jobs program and help them get votes by “protecting jobs”.
What bothers me is that those “jobs” are for only one purpose, killing other people.
Instead of creating another WPA like jobs program, that was created under FDR when capitalism completely failed, defense contractors, as well as the vast expansion of the Security-Spy-Industrial Complex does just fine today. Every democrat can rally the troops (the party faithful) behind “national security”, which former president Obama was so wonderful at doing.
Do you remember his campaign promises to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but wound up escalating and further expanding those wars? Heck, former president Obama bombed more countries with out a congressional declaration of war than Bush did. And Bush would not have been able to launch those illegal wars with out direct, explicit support of Democrats in congress. So much for the anti-war party. Think for a moment, do you remember Mrs. Clinton, as Senator of New York, standing up in the Senate, giving a speech in which she said she would “trust” the president (George Bush) at his word?
If you think either of these wars are over, you are either just ignorant of the reality on the ground or blind to reality facing the world today.
Just look at Libya, one of former president Obama’s imperial and illegal wars. It’s a failed state and another reason for the huge refugee crisis in Europe. Syria was flooded by refugees from the Iraq war, where the US unilaterally disbanded the military, the Baath Party and the police forces through out the country, creating a vast power vacuum which taken advantage of by “extremists”. Not to mention destroying vast swaths of the country infrastructure, which former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said later was a huge business opportunity for American business.
America is by far the largest weapons supplier in the world. Our “logic” (imo) is that if we don’t do it, someone else will, so why not profit from it ourselves?
One can go back to when president Wilson campaigned on keeping America out of World War One, and then after the election he immediately got the US into the war. But not only that, president Wilson oversaw the illegal invasion of Russia, as William Blum points out in his book, Killing Hope: US Military and CIA Interventions Since WWII1.
“By the summer of 1918 some 13,000 American troops could be found in the newly-born Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Two years and thousands of casualties later, the American troops left, having failed in their mission to “strangle at its birth” the Bolshevik state, as Winston Churchill put it.“
My head almost exploded when former Secretary of State John Kerry was on the CBS program, Face The Nation and stated “You just don’t in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pre-text,”. Excuse me but hello Mr. (hypocrite) Kerry, but wasn’t that exactly what former president George Bush did with Iraq and Afghanistan? What about former president Obama did with Libya and Syria?
There’s a line in the lyric from the song Denial by the musical artist Alpha-11, “We could spend our time, find a cure for cancer, but that would a bore, we would rather fight the next war” (https://youtu.be/WePJ-EEZN_M)
That lyric, to me, seems to pretty much sum up America’s view. Finding a cure for Cancer is not as important as fighting the next war, which Democrats (and Republicans) are fueling with all this “Russia did” it hysteria that is so prevalent in the headlines now days, completely forgetting the FACT, it is a deflection from the contents of Mrs. Clinton, the DNC and John Podesta’s emails which exposed many disgusting (illegal) things I’ll not re-hash here. You can read all about them at Wikileaks.
The anti-war part of the Democrat party no longer seems to exist. It’s been stifled by corporate Democrats because the vast sums of money from their country club contributors is just too good to give up.
