Of all the habits I thought I’d build during quarantine, only one has stuck. Every morning I open my phone and type “COVID cases” into the search bar. And every morning I’m greeted with the same grim news; cases are increasing. States that eased their lockdown restrictions lifted saw a dramatic spike in new cases. A few cities were even forced to backtrack their plans.

That’s bad enough, but it paints a dire picture. What’s going to happen to the workers who were heading back to work? For those who remain, they face potential exposure and the stress of working with limited support. …
