Really good points although it is important to point out to the writers that procedural information for refugees on the Islands, and particularly for Chios is available and has been available since January 2017.

Most recently, following a groundbreaking piece of research we conducted with Translators Without Borders last summer, four information films have been made available in eight languages since April 2018. RLC have been sent several reminders of the films and we even met in June to discuss them so I’m not sure why the writers aren’t aware of them.

The films are available on our website and YouTube channel and are about to be published on the UNHCR ‘HELP’ website and the refugee.info website and social media page and are being distributed widely via many other channels, including micro SD cards, which are being distributed directly to asylum seekers in Vial.

UNHCR Lesvos recently asked for a solution to the problem of legal advisors’ time being taken up answering questions that refugees can easily find the answers to themselves. The solution is to show the films to asylum seekers from the time they arrive. We’re currently working with UNHCR with a view to gaining their support to achieve widespread distribution in the Island camps.

Information distribution is an issue, as highlighted in this article and it relies on every organisation keeping themselves up to date with what is available and sharing it with people who need it. I am very surprised that the writers do not know that the information is available to them for sharing and would be really happy to discuss if they wish to contact me on refucomm@gmail.com.
