This week, Seattle Reign FC will be announcing its team awards for the 2017 season. The awards are voted on by the players and coaching staff at the club. Today, we announce the team MVP.

Most Valuable Player — Rumi Utsugi

This season’s MVP is midfielder Rumi Utsugi. This marks the first time Utsugi has earned the honor. Despite missing time this season due to injury, Utsugi played in 20 matches for the club, starting 18, and tallied one goal and two assists.

As a key part of the Reign FC midfield, Utsugi tallied her first assist of her NWSL career this season. Utsugi had the highest passing accuracy among Reign FC midfielders, and the second highest passing accuracy among all Reign FC field players.

In her defensive midfield role, Utsugi recovered the ball 119 times throughout the course of the season, good for second among all Reign FC field players, and had 32 interceptions. The midfielder won more than half the tackles she attempted during the season, winning a total of 35 tackles.

Stay tuned the rest of the week as we continue to announce the 2017 Reign FC team award winners. Tomorrow we announce the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year for the 2017 NWSL season.
