Megan Rapinoe voted NWSL Player of the Week

Seattle Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe put on quite a show on Sunday evening, so much so that she has been voted the NWSL Player of the Week by the media for Week 1 of the 2015 NWSL season.

Rapinoe, 29, scored her first NWSL career hat-trick on Sunday, April 12 as Reign FC defeated Western New York Flash 5–1 in the season opener. In addition to her three goals, Rapinoe also notched the assist on midfielder Jess Fishlock’s opening goal of the match.

The Redding, Calif. native tallied her first goal of the game in the 70th minute when she rose above her defender and headed a powerful cross from forward Merritt Mathias into the back of the net, giving Reign FC a 3–1 lead over the Flash.

Four minutes later, Rapinoe scored her second goal when she was able to head the ball into the net after Flash goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo initially saved an attempt by Fishlock.

Rapinoe completed her hat-trick in the 86th minute of the match after a beautiful give and go pass from Fishlock lead her into the box and she fired a low shot past D’Angelo.

This is the second time Rapinoe has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week in her career since she first received it during Week 16 of the 2013 NWSL season.

Seattle Reign FC will return to action Saturday, April 18 at 5:00 p.m. PT against the Chicago Red Stars at Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Stadium in Lisle, Ill.
