Rachel Corsie Makes History with Scotland
While Scotland heads home from their first major tournament after the group stage the side still made history in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017. Going 1–2–0 in Group D, Scotland finished third in the group with three points.
In their first-ever EUROs appearance, Scotland scored their first EUROs goal, earned their first EUROs win, and said goodbye to their longtime head coach Anna Signeul who is stepping down after 12 years at the helm.
“I am always proud of them,” said Signeul. “Even when we lose, and maybe do not perform so well, but they try their best all the time. Tonight was fantastic. They showed what we are all about.”

Reign FC defender Rachel Corsie started all three matches, playing the full 90 against Spain and Portugal and totaling 256 minutes in the tournament. Corsie made her 90th all-time appearance for Scotland, where she has also tallied 16 goals.
After a tough loss to England to open the group stage, Scotland battled back in a closely contested 2–1 loss against Portugal. Despite the losses, Scotland still had a chance to advance to the knockout stages in their final group stage match, and were just one goal away from doing so.

Scotland earned their first-ever EURO victory in a 1–0 win over Spain to close out their 2017 EUROs run. It was Scotland’s first EUROs victory in team history. Corsie made a critical clearance off the goal line in the match to secure the three points. All five squads making their tournament debut earned their first-ever wins.
Up next, Scotland will continue their quest to qualify for their first Women’s World Cup, with two UEFA qualifying matches in October. Scotland will face Belarus on October 19th, followed by a match against Albania on October 24th.
