Reign FC 0, Red Stars 0

On Saturday night, the anticipated matchup between Seattle Reign FC and Chicago Red Stars came and went. While there were chances aplenty for both sides, neither side could find a game-changing goal, and the final whistle blew on the nil-nil matchup.

Chicago’s best chance fell in the 20th minute when defender Elli Reed made a goal-line save for Reign FC to deny Chicago’s Michelle Wenino from finding the back of the net.

In the second half, the pressure continued as Reign FC outshot Chicago 8–3. Forward Merritt Mathias had the team’s best chance of the night, hitting a shot off the crossbar in the 76th minute.

Head coach Laura Harvey said holding the Red Stars scoreless was the biggest positive she could take away from the result.

“I think we handled their threat well,” Harvey said. “They’re a threat because they have pace and then they’re a threat on set piece and I thought we did well against that.”

With the draw, Reign FC became the first side to hold the undefeated Red Stars off the scoreboard in seven league games this season while also extending its own all-time NWSL home unbeaten record at Memorial to 11–0–5.
