Reign FC Rundown vs. Sky Blue FC, Take 2

Today’s Agenda:
Champions League Final
FIFA Women’s World Cup
Reign FC vs. Sky Blue FC

Now that is a whole lot of soccer right there and we couldn’t be more excited. Another batch of NWSL matches will take place and rounding out #SoccerSaturday is your very own Seattle Reign FC. This will be the second time Reign FC faces Sky Blue FC this season, but the first meeting between the two sides under the ever so lovely Space Needle. Here is your Reign FC Rundown for tonight’s matchup.

Hello Again

Do you remember May 9? Do you want to? Reign FC looked poised to grab its first road win of the 2015 season on the heels of defender Lauren Barnes’ first-ever NWSL tally, but then an unfortunate series of events struck late to force Reign FC to share points with the home side.

With the FIFA Women’s World Cup kicking off tomorrow (OMG!), it’s safe to say the lineups will be very similar to the ones both teams played in that first encounter.

Reign FC midfielder Jess Fishlock will return to league action after serving a one-game suspension last week that she picked up against… Sky Blue FC. The only thing scarier than regular Jess Fishlock is Jess Fishlock after having to sit out a match.

Week 8 Recap

There isn’t too much to report when it comes to what happened last week. We wrote a riveting rundown prior to the #SRFCvCRS matchup and the two sides bested each other at every turn until the final whistle blew on the 0–0 stalemate. Reign FC had a few chances that just didn’t bounce the right way while Chicago had a header saved off the line by the always fantastic defender Elli Reed.

Reign FC did, however, grab its first shutout of the season in the draw AND were the first side to keep Chicago scoreless this season. Alas, Chicago remained undefeated and Seattle remained unbeaten on the Moda Pitch. Alrighty then.

Sky Blue FC, on the other end, also had themselves a draw last weekend which just so happened to be their fourth of the 2015 campaign. While they struck first against the Houston Dash, Sky Blue just couldn’t make the lead stick. With four minutes left to play, the Dash found their equalizer and that was that.

That very trend has plagued Sky Blue FC all season long as they have given up the tying goal three times out of the four leads they have taken this season. They’ve also failed to register more than one goal in a game and that will definitely be hard to change on the road in Seattle.

Goal Goals

Reign FC really enjoy goals, and this season, Laura Harvey’s side has found the back of the net eight times in three games at home. They enter Saturday’s match against Sky Blue FC with the most goals per game (2.67) and are also tied for the fewest goals against per game (0.067) at home this year.

Reign FC will be looking to get back on track and let it reign (sorry not sorry) goals again come 7 p.m. PT. It won’t be easy though considering the Sky Blue FC defense has allowed multiple goals in a game just once in eight matches this season.

All in all, we definitely, definitely recommend swinging by the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium tonight and seeing this matchup play out live. Tickets are still available here but if you really can’t be there, then catch all the action online via Youtube.
