Seattle Reign FC have announced that goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer has signed a new contract with the club through the 2018 NWSL season. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“I cannot overstate how excited I am to back for a fifth season with the Reign,” said Kopmeyer. “This team and staff took a huge risk on me a few years back and have invested in my development as both a player and person. I am beyond excited to make my mark on this program and help push us back to the top of table.”

Kopmeyer started in 11 matches for the club during the 2016 season, making 41 saves over the course of the year. Part of a defense that set a league record for most consecutive shutouts with five and most minutes without conceding a goal at 531 minutes, Kopmeyer earned three total shutouts during the season.

“It’s a big year for Kops,” said Seattle Reign FC head coach and general manager Laura Harvey. “Obviously she’s been with us since the first year and developed tremendously over the past four seasons.”

The goalkeeper is the third player to re-sign with the club this offeseason, along with defender Merritt Mathias and forward Kiersten Dallstream. Kopmeyer is among six Reign FC players who have been part of the squad since the inaugural 2013 season.

“She deserves the opportunity to be a number one and I think this is her year to push to make it hers,” said Harvey. “We are obviously trying to make it a real challenge for her and we want competition for that. We’re just really pleased she wants to stay around and push to be that number one.”
