Seattle Reign FC has signed Spanish defender Celia Jiménez Delgado for the 2019 NWSL season. As per club and league policy, terms were not disclosed.

“Signing with Reign FC to compete in the NWSL is a dream come true,” said Jiménez. “I am excited to become the best player I can be to help my team reach their 2019 season goals.”

Seattle selected Jiménez in the fourth round with the 36th overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft. Jiménez joined Reign FC in June of 2018 after completing her degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Alabama. She trained with Reign FC while playing for Seattle Sounders Women, leading the team to the 2018 WPSL Championship. In August 2018, Jiménez joined FC Rosengård in Sweden. Celia made six starts and scored one goal in 524 minutes for the club.

Jiménez is also a fixture on the Spanish national team, having already accrued 19 caps for her country. She is expected to be part of the Spanish squad competing in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup next summer.

“We’re excited to have Celia back with Reign FC next year,” said head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “She’s an intelligent player and I know she’ll have an impact on our team in 2019.”
