Seattle Reign FC Goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel Announces Retirement

Goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel has announced her retirement from professional soccer. Schiffel joined the club prior to the 2017 NWSL season, after Reign FC acquired her rights in a trade with the Washington Spirit.

Schiffel made one appearance for Reign FC this season, starting in the club’s 3–2 victory against the Washington Sprit on September 30th. In her regular season NWSL debut, Schiffel made seven saves during the course of the match.

Prior to joining Reign FC, began her professional career with Avaldsnes IL in the Norwegian Toppserien where she helped the club to a second place finish and qualified for UEFA Champions League.

Collegiately, Schiffel played at the University of San Francisco, setting single-season school records for wins (13), shutouts (9), and minutes played in goal (1,865). Schiffel has also represented the United States at the U-20 and U-23 levels.
