Reign FC fans cast their vote on Twitter to select the Save of the Year for the 2017 NWSL season. The four candidates included Haley Kopmeyer against Sky Blue FC on July 22nd, Kopmeyer against Houston on May 27th, Lydia Williams against Orlando on September 7th, and Madalyn Schiffel against Washington on September 30th.

With 36% of the vote, the winner is Kopmeyer’s diving save against Sky Blue FC. This marks the first time Kopmeyer has won Save of the Year for Reign FC and the first time Reign FC have offered the award.

Kopmeyer’s save was one of eight she made in the match, a back-and-forth game that saw Reign FC pull out a 5–4 victory. After forward Sam Kerr won a 50–50 ball in the midfield for Sky Blue, she played it out wide to defender Kelley O’Hara who was open on the wing. O’Hara took two touches and then fired the ball on frame from just outside the box. Kopmeyer made an acrobatic diving save to keep the ball out of the net, and the scoreline 3–0 at the time.

During the course of the 2017 season, Kopmeyer made 81 saves while facing 335 shots. The goalkeeper was named NWSL Player of the Week the opening week of the season for another performance against Sky Blue. Kopmeyer made nine saves in that match to preserve a 1–1 tie for Reign FC.
