This week, Seattle Reign FC will be announcing its team awards for the 2017 season. The awards are voted on by the players and coaching staff at the club. Today, we announce the team’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Defensive Player of the Year — Rebekah Stott

This season’s Defensive Player of the Year is defender Rebekah Stott. This marks the first time Stott has earned the honor. In her first season in the NWSL, the 24-year-old appeared in all but two matches for Reign FC, totaling 1,714 minutes played.

During the 2017 season, Stott started and played the full 90 minutes in all three shutouts posted by the Reign FC defense, twice against the Houston Dash and once against Portland Thorns FC. Stott also helped provide some offense from her outside back position, tallying one assist on the season and creating 11 chances.

The defender won 69% of her duels this season, the best among all Reign FC field players. Stott was third on the team in total clearances, with 65 on the season, and won 75% of her tackles during the year, good for second best among Reign FC defenders.

“We’ve got some young talent at this club,” said head coach and general manager Laura Harvey. “There’s some young players that played more minutes this year than we anticipated them to, but that was due to their ability, so someone like Stott stepped up and started to have more of an impact on the club. There’s a bright future.”

Stay tuned the rest of the week as we continue to announce the 2017 Reign FC team award winners. Tomorrow we announce the team’s Best Social Media account for the 2017 NWSL season.
