This week, Seattle Reign FC will be announcing its team awards for the 2017 season. The awards are voted on by the players and coaching staff at the club. Today, we announce the team’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Offensive Player of the Year — Megan Rapinoe

This season’s Offensive Player of the Year is forward Megan Rapinoe. This marks the first-time Rapinoe has earned the honor. The forward led the team in goals during the 2017 season with 12, which was also good for third most in the NWSL.

Rapinoe set personal career bests in several categories, making the most appearances, tallying the most minutes, and scoring the most goals of her five seasons with Reign FC. The forward also has four multi-goal matches this season, three braces and one hat trick, which is the most of her career. With 18 appearances this season, it was just the second time in Rapinoe’s NWSL career that she appeared in more than half of Reign FC’s matches.

During the 2017 season, Rapinoe scored in five of Reign FC’s nine wins, and scored in seven matches total. Statistically, the forward averaged a goal every 127 minutes this season, the best average on Reign FC among players with at least 10 appearances.

“[Rapinoe] was beyond anything that I could have imagined getting out of her this year,” said head coach and general manager Laura Harvey. “Pinoe, at the moment, is world-class, on both sides of the ball. Her GPS data is something of a twenty-year-old, not of a thirty-whatever year old. It’s phenomenal.”

Stay tuned the rest of the week as we continue to announce the 2017 Reign FC team award winners. Tomorrow we announce the team’s Best Social Media account for the 2017 NWSL season.
