This week, Seattle Reign FC will be announcing its team awards for the 2017 season. The awards are voted on by the players and coaching staff at the club. Today, we announce the team’s Unsung Hero.

Unsung Hero — Elli Reed

This season’s Unsung Hero is defender Elli Reed. This marks the first-time Reed has earned the honor. Reed featured in four matches, and the veteran defender was a huge factor in the team’s successes this season. Reed announced her retirement upon the conclusion of the 2017 NWSL season.

With the team since the inaugural 2013 season, Reed played all five of her professional NWSL seasons with Reign FC. A huge part of the back-to-back Shield winning seasons in 2014 and 2015, and helping the backline set a record for most consecutive shutouts in 2016, Reed has long been a key player for head coach Laura Harvey and company.

All-time, Reed logged 5,741 minutes for the club through 80 total appearances. The defender also tallied four assists in her career, and became known for her game-saving goal line clearances.

“She’s a fantastic teammate, and proven that all the way through,” said Harvey. “Whether she’s played every minute, come off the bench, or not seen time she’s never changed. That’s a testament to who she is.”

Stay tuned the rest of the week as we continue to announce the 2017 Reign FC team award winners. Tomorrow we announce the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year for the 2017 NWSL season.
