In their final visit to North Carolina during the 2017 NWSL regular season, Reign FC fell 1–0 on the road to the Courage. This is the second time Seattle has fallen on the road in shutout fashion to the Courage. Below is a look at three takeaways from the match.

100: Reign FC co-captain and defender Lauren Barnes and midfielder Christine Nairn made their 100th NWSL regular season appearance against the Courage.

Barnes and Nairn made history on Saturday night, becoming the first players in league history to reach 100 regular season appearances. The milestone was made even more notable for Barnes, as she became the first player to accomplish this with all of her appearances coming with one team, Reign FC. Nairn began her career with Reign FC in 2013, after she was Seattle’s first-ever draft pick.

75: Reign FC midfielder Jess Fishlock and Barnes won 75% of their duels against the Courage.

Reign FC was on the defensive end for a good portion of the match, which shows when reviewing who was winning the most duels on the pitch. While defensively Barnes led Reign FC with 12 duels, for the Courage it was forward Lynn Williams. The pressure from the Courage forwards was a page from Seattle’s own tactics. Barnes, with support from Fishlock in the midfield, was up to the challenge though, as both players emerged victorious in a majority of their duels on the field.

11: Reign FC defender Rachel Corsie gained possession 11 times against the Courage.

The defensive work for Reign FC is further highlighted by how often defenders were called upon to win back possession for the team. Corsie, in her first match back from the UEFA Women’s EUROs, gained possession 11 times in the match, five times more than the next closest Reign FC player. The defender also had three clearances in the match and was named Reign FC player of the match for her performance.
