Summarising the Brief

I have chosen to The Pod Bay Doors project which is to create a site for a new band.

The client needs a site to help promote their band, the things the site must contain is contact details, pictures of the band, a way to listen to their songs, a band bio, a list of upcoming shows and as they are a new band they don’t have a logo yet so one will need to be made even if it is just a temporary logo.

They are after a website that is different from most other sites so the look of the site will need to be interesting but it must still be just a functional as any other site, so the goal is to make a site that effective promotes the bands image and allows of fans to see where and when their gigs are.

For this project I will be making a custom website as I believe that it will be easier to start it from scratch from rather than try to change a pre-built one to meet your needs.

When I was doing market research I came along a few sites that have some interesting ideas( http://www.brokenbells.com/)and this site too(http://www.suiepaparude.ro/) in the music industry pretty much every band is a competitor so that being said there are a lot of competitors but a lot of fairly standard site with not a lot going on which will allow me to be .

Evaluating Social Media Options

Social media it’s a way to get wanted and also unwanted attention, the advantages of social media is that it extends the reach that your brand has, allows for feedback, the disadvantages of social media is you might get negative comments but sometimes that can also be a good thing if it’s constructive criticism.

For this project Soundcloud as it is a music based site, facebook, bandsintown because they are in need of a easy way to post their upcoming gigs and this would be a suitable fit for their needs and possibly a twitter and instagram.

Design Sketches

For the homepage I thought I would have a picture in the middle and a split nav bar with the bands logo sitting in the middle.

The contact page will be fairly basic with links to social media with other various contact details, the picture page will be some type of gallery where after a certain amount of time it will just auto scroll through the images with arrows if you want to scroll through yourself, bio page will just be a page with some images and info, the events page I don’t really have a clear idea on yet so that is very rough.
