Hey there, Jonathan!
I’m new to Medium and have only posted two stories so far, but your story reminds me of mine.
It has a similar plot to yours, except that I was in the “older” stage of life when I was trying to figure out what I wanted out of life. You’re wise to question your life’s purpose now in your twenties. Those that DON’T put thought to it are the ones not so wise!
I highly recommend two books that I read while I was seeking answers to these questions. They helped me immensely!
“48 Days To The Work You Love” and “No More Dreaded Mondays” by Dan Miller.
I have a 20 year old son in college. You’ve probably heard this a million times, but the one thing I tell my son is “whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s something you love and are passionate about. NOT what someone else wants you to do, but what YOU want to do.”
Sometimes discovering what you are truly passionate about, and discovering what makes you, YOU…is the hardest thing to know how to do. Dan Miller’s 48 Hour book really help to shed light on this process.
Don’t lose hope…you’ve got something special inside you that the world is waiting to see.
