I don’t think this article was written with an elitist perspective, though the term “composed music” is certainly filled with elitist connotations. I think the idea of changing the name is intended to be inclusive and more representative of what the music is actually about. Although I completely agree with you that erasing history solves nothing; changes the attitudes surrounding classical music is the only way to make it more inclusive. To clarify, I’m referring to both the dismissive attitude of the general public and the elitist attitude of classical musicians themselves.
