Can the real skilled healer please stand up?
Everyone in health care could tell you the ways its broken. We found people to tell you how they fix it to be better for patients every day.
Finding a good doctor is not easy.
A friend at Rock Health recently confided he’s been struggling for months to find a good medical team accepting new patients. If this is the experience of one of the most connected people in healthcare, what hope is there for the rest of us?
Remedy has seen a lot in the last year traveling to top hospitals and doctors offices around the country. Much of it infuriates us. But we’ve also met the backbones of our health system. They stand up for their patients. If they hear nonsense policies from above, they refuse to pass that along to their patients’ care. They take on extra work all the time, often invisible to their boss, their patients, and reimbursement groups. They humble us.

“Best Doctors” listings don’t take this stuff into account. They’re largely PR projects within sub-groups of the physician pool, with little oversight of their methodology. In fact, many of these listings select for doctors for playing the game and focusing on volume-based care in a tight preferential network.
What about when the best thing for the patient isn’t signing them up for another test, medication, or procedure, isn’t sending them on a wild goose chase of referrals to other specialists?
Remedy decided to start crediting the unsung heroes we’ve met.
We’ll have an ongoing publication of colleagues across the country, from Western Kentucky to a special list of the top 10 Doctors in San Francisco. The full list of San Francisco will be released at the end of February, but a sneak peek is coming soon. Sign up here to get news when we release our list.
We’re hosting our Bay Area recognition dinner at our favorite restaurant in San Francisco, Kokkari Estiatorio. Stay tuned for more details.
