[Recap] WeDC SXSW Celebration Dinner

Written by Victor Etongwe, Cofounder at RemodelMate, a humble ventures startup that is rapidly raising the standards for the entire home improvement industry by making the process as a whole, more beneficial and pleasant for customers and contractors alike.

In March we were invited to be part of the WeDC house at SXSW. If you haven’t already check out A Credit Card and a Dream: How We Owned #SXSW for $221.96, Roundtrip. On Wednesday we went to dinner at WeWork White House to celebrate and recap the amazing success that the city had this year at SXSW. We never pass up the opportunity for good food and drank (the food was ridiculously good).

Here’s a few highlights:

1. WeDC killed SXSW. Check out these crazy stats below:

Crushing some of the biggest names at SXSW

2. The Capital of Inclusive Innovation

The WeDC house in SXSW was a diverse scene the entire time, and the dinner was no exception. Here’s a cool recap video with DC’s diversity on full display.

DC is kinda swaggy

3. DC Tech is Growing

Without an ecosystem to help them grow & scale, the start-ups that begin in DC will not stay. Over the course of the night we were introduced to a number players working to pull Washington, DC tech in the right direction. We knew many of the folks in the room, but a lot of them were fresh faces. With 150+ entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators it’s clear that the community is growing.

A good looking city
