RFK’s Words Are Needed Now More Than Ever

If your father is like my father, I’m guessing he just kinda cuts straight to the matter of things doesn’t he? Maybe or maybe not, but we all appreciate someone that can cut to the point of a situation, maybe even someone that can take a bad situation and turn a negative into a positive, take a dark, scary cave and light it up showing the beauty of it all.

It seems that thanks to the media’s industrial talking-head complex, simply stating the facts are grounds for ridicule and being short and earnest won’t get you a call back the next time the local news needs an opinion.

This mindset of exaggeration, absolutism, and power plays has begun to bleed into our everyday conversations. It seems we can’t discuss anything of importance anymore without preparing for a shouting war.

In light of the racial commentary that has been littered throughout the news recently, this fact becomes more obvious. Sometimes in order to embrace the changing tides of tomorrow we must first reflect on the who walked the ground we walk upon before us.

Kennedy didn’t use MLK’s death to boost a political issue or cause, he didn’t make it about himself, he didn’t use their anger to fit his agenda. He spoke of love, of “justice between fellow human beings.”

“In this difficult time in the United, it sits well to as what kind of a nation we are…”

This is what a statesman says, this is what we should embrace as we search for the better nature of ourselves.
