Why ‘Women Who Whisky’ is My Perfect Life Hack
The best women I know drink whisky neat and aren’t scared to offend you in the first five minutes.
I used to think I couldn’t make friends with most women. It turns out I’m not out to be friends with everybody. I only want a certain kind of person in my life. Time is your only truly finite resource: don’t waste it. Be strategic. Know what you want. Explore your options with an open mind but clearly focused palate. I find whisky is a fantastic ‘life hack’ for this.

It only took me till my late twenties to find these inspiring, driven ladies. But hey, better late than never. It’s not really all about the drink but more what it reflects. A neat whisky says, “I know who I am and what I like” (regardless of gender). These are the people I want to spend my time around.
After years of buying into the competitive nature of ladies myth, I stopped. I stopped buying in and started believing in a better way. And, incidentally, I started a whisky club to connect all the interesting and open minded people in my life who shared my passion for innovation and whisky. Little did I know this would be the best thing I could do for my outlook on life, friendship, and social dynamics. People like to undertake projects with people they know and like. Tasting new whiskies can fast track this kind of social bonding in all sorts of magical ways.
The biggest thing about approaching a conversation with a new person or a new dram is keeping an open mind, giving it at least a few moments before passing full judgements and most importantly checking your assumptions upon arrival. Older whisky isn’t always better, women don’t always want to talk about their feelings, men don’t always need to prove their masculinity. The list could go on.
Think when was the last time you went into a situation with a limiting assumption? What was that assumption? Where do you think that idea came from? What legitimate reason did you have for thinking this? What are you missing out on by sticking with this limiting assumption?
It’s good to check in with those questions at key points of your social, emotional and professional growth.
I highly recommend starting out your practice with the fabulous world of whisky. You’ll be amazed what you might find. Both in terms of drink options as well as expanding your social horizons.
