The Other Side

You look into the other side, and you smile back. The other you stares, grinning turning into snickers. You, a broken toy, are tired of being played with. Your muscles are weak, and you collapse. You stare into the abyss, and the other you stares back. Snickers turn into chuckles. Each breath smacking you in the face. You are already hurt, so what is the point. You stare back, eyes closing. Maybe sleep will take away your pain.
Maybe he will write back.
Maybe you weren’t a fool to fall for him. But, the other you begs to differ. The other you knows better; the other you sneers and ends with a big inhale, preparing for the last laugh. Your eyes don’t want to open, your eyes don’t want to see the reality of it all.
The other you looks at you, smile and all. “You were played once more,” you whisper softly into your own ear, “you were a fool. A fool for love, a fool for a chance, a fool for friendship, a fool. But, you are not a fool for life. You shouldn’t regret what you did today, for you would have done the same thing tomorrow. You would have suffered the same amount. I laugh at you today because you are the splitting image of me yesterday. You weren’t played, you were taught. Taught to never be a horrible person like that. Taught that people can be cruel and heartless. You may be a fool, but not a fool for life. You will get up, look at yourself in the mirror, but you will not see you. You will see the new you, the you that doesn’t need someone. You are the only person you need, because you is all you will ever have.
“So, get off of the floor damnit! Clean yourself off, grieve, and move on. Move on, and know the only person there for you is yourself, so love yourself. Love yourself with all the might these words give you. Love yourself with all the honesty, bravery, and awesomeness I know is in there.
“He may never write back, and if he does he probably doesn’t give a damn, if yowere left like this today. So acknowledge how stupid he must be to lose a girl like you, and know you are better off. Know that you are beautiful, smart, funny, and amazing, and that means a lot coming from yourself.”
You slowly wake up, and look to the other side. You are not there anymore, you don’t have anything else to say. Pain engulfs your insides, but you remember your words.
“Clean yourself off, grieve, and move on.”
So you do just that, knowing the pain will subside with time. Just give it time.
