Vote Explanation for the Standard Merger and Acquisition Reviews Through Equal Rules (SMARTER) Act (H.R. 2745).

3/23/2016

When companies compete consumers win. That is why today I voted no on the Standard Merger and Acquisition Reviews Through Equal Rules (SMARTER) Act (H.R. 2745).

The Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission are the two federal agencies in charge of overseeing mergers and acquisitions. This bill would undermine the Federal Trade Commission’s ability to review merges and insure that they don’t negatively impact consumers. The bill passed the House by a vote of 235–171.
