Today the House passed the bipartisan Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (H.R. 2353). This bill provides federal support to state and local career and technical education (CTE) programs throughout the United States.

Specifically, the bill would:

  • Simplify how states apply for job-training funding;
  • Allow states more flexibility to develop job-training initiatives that reflect local market needs; and
  • Apply performance measures to CTE programs, among other things.

I supported this legislation because I believe we must improve career and technical education to help more students gain the knowledge and skills they need to compete for in-demand jobs of the 21st century.

This bill passed the House by voice vote.
