Vote Explanation for (H.R. 3700)
2/5/2016
Everyone should have access to quality affordable housing, especially our veterans. This week Congress made that goal one step closer to a reality by passing the bipartisan Housing Opportunity through Modernization Act (H.R. 3700).
This bill would make important changes to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) which will cut red tape and help address the shortage in public housing.
Specifically, this bill would:
- Create a Veterans Liaison within HUD who would help our nation’s veterans get access to housing and coordinate programs to end veterans homelessness;
- Improve the inspections process, ensuring fairness for both renters and landlords; and
- Allow local public housing authorities more flexibility in how they fund their long-term strategic plan.
I voted for this bill and it will now head to the Senate.
