Vote Explanation for the Scholarship for Opportunities and Results Act (SOAR) Act (H.R. 4901)
More than a decade after Congress created a voucher program to help low-income students attend private schools there is still little evidence these students are consistently preforming better than their peers in public schools. Today the House passed the Scholarship for Opportunities and Results Act (SOAR) Act (H.R. 4901), which would continue the voucher education program.
I voted against this bill because I think we should allow the District of Columbia to invest the amount included in this bill in the public education system, including teacher training and expanding other proven educational models such as charter schools.
