You are right, this is a very important bill and that is why I have deliberated over it for a long time. I am voting for a process that will make future trade bills stronger but is not a trade bill itself. However, I think this process will give us the strongest standards ever. Under TPA, any bill that the President negotiates has to meet certain…
Thank you for the comment however you are referring to the TPP. My post is about why I am voting for the TPA which is different. The TPA is not a trade bill, it’s a process that will used to negotiate trade bills and one I feel will give us better bills in the future, including when the TPP is debated. If it does not, then I will vote against them.
Thank you for the comment but this is not a trade bill. TPA is about the process we will debate future trade bills and a process that will keep future trade bills from being kept secret. Under TPA any bill brought to Congress is made publicly available for 60 days.
I believe you are confusing the TPP with the TPA. The TPA is a process and not a trade bill. The text has been available for months. The full text, along with the text of all bills that Congress considers is available at Congress.gov. The TPA bill can be read here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/1314/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22hr1314%5C%22%22%5D%7D
Thank you for the comment, Helga. This is not a vote on the TPP. It is a vote on TPA which is about the process not a trade bill. And I think it’s a process that will allow us to write better trade bills in the future, including if and when a TPP bill is introduced.
