I like listing on eBay, its kinda fun and easy. it’s like, you list your items on eBay and then there will be notifications telling you, you’ve sold your items …
that sounds great, isn’t it?
There are a huge number of marketplaces on which you can sell your goods. but here I wanna talk about simple and easy steps you can take to increase sales on eBay Plus I added my own experiences and a tiny little secret to make a huge profit.
whiteout a further ado let’s dive into the point.
I had been working as a freelancer for a company based in the UK which sells CCTV products on eBay.
I was a complete newbie to eBay (and there is a secret here which makes it a win-win business for me and the company I worked for which I’m going to be telling you below) but fair enough I need money so I had to increase the sales to remain working there and of course to get more money as a commission and a big raise!
Here are my suggestions and experiences which are really easy and completely doable you can follow as an eBay lister to increase your monthly sales on eBay:
1. Google can help you with the keywords and its algorithm
eBay search engine called “Cassini” is much similar to google one and what I’ve learnt is that eBay marketplace is like a little google which is easy to be shown at the first ranks of the search results.
just keep in your mind that you have both Google and eBay to improve your listing’s chances to be clicked and hopefully end up to the sales. so use the google trends & google auto-suggestion to find the market trends and demand for your preset keywords. and see what people are looking for and what they type to buy; so take advantage of keywords on your listings by including them in the title, description box, item specifications and your item’s variations if there is.
2. Use keywords in your listing that buyers would use + find keywords of the vantage point of your product then combine these two with your creativity and experiences that you’re going to get
There are so many tools whether for free or premium or even partly free. use them to find the right keywords and demands. use the keyword in the title of your listing upfront but keep the title unique. (*** I mean don’t copy the exact keywords upfront in the listing title; instead, write a title with a combination of the suggested keywords along with distinct keywords and facts of your item)
*the eBay search engine needs to find out that your items are unique and different among other similar listings.

You only get 80 characters to describe your item in the eBay listing title, so don’t waste it on words and phrases that buyers are not searching for. These include descriptors like “cute,” “adorable” or “sturdy.” Those terms are too vague. Instead, stick to the facts: type of item, brand name, colour, size, features, year manufactured, model number, pattern and similar words. Avoid keyword spamming, however, such as claiming a mirror is “like Pottery Barn” or a handbag is “like Michael Kors.” It’s misleading and can get you in trouble.
here are some tips and tools which i used myself for free to write the best title and you can apply them to get the results:
- eBay search autocomplete box
- https://keywordtool.io/ebay
I always used this site along with eBay Autocomplete whenever listing to create a better title which sales. - https://title-builder.com/title-builder/
simply type your item name or details (seed keywords) and you will find the most popular and relevant keywords which are being searched by your customers. you can also select among the most relevant category and the most important point is that title-builder generates a title based on the competition level of the keywords. so use those keywords of the most amount of items and using them upfront.
the title builder helps you to create the best title in almost any languages.
so common, give it a shot right now to get more sales on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, or any other online marketplaces.

3. Take clear pictures and Add up to 12 pictures as much as possible
- Use unique photos of your goods and do not borrow another sellers photo
- Use high-quality photos and take clear photos: This will show your item well, without being too large.
best sizes are 1200px * 1200px or 1600px * 1600px and by using the jpeg mini or jpeg mini pro, you can optimize and reduce image file size without compromising quality. https://www.jpegmini.com/.
(you can even reduce the image file size on photoshop via saving for web.)
*** Remember that whenever your listings appear on eBay search results, it’s your listings image that first will take the buyers attention to. so put yourself in the buyer’s shoes to see if your pictures can be appealing to click or not.
- Adding up the minimum of 3 images for each item and its variations (if there is) and try to add up 12 images if possible.
4. Daily listing
List one item a day, especially from Monday to Friday on the hours that buyers would search and buy. this is really important because when you list an item at the first hours pass by, it will be showed at the top of the results and of course, will get more views. and chances are to be classed as a hot item.
5. Offer a 60-day return policy and Free next-day delivery or free shipping
Be committed to delivering at the right time and provide the tracking numbers for the customers, and response to the massages as quickly as possible.
6. Use eBay promotions: especially for the watched items or items of more views
7. Share your items on social media
I myself take advantage of Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook especially Facebook Marketplace to share my items there with a good number of relative hashtags to direct more buyers and traffic to my listings and obviously to get more sales. by sharing your items on social media, the views of your items will go up and help the Listings impressions.
https://www.forbes.com/
There are large numbers of special interest groups on platforms like Facebook, where you can share links to listings with collectors of vintage crewel and needlework, for example, or announce your latest Lilly Pulitzer find to collectors of that designer. Pinterest is another place where you can create boards to group like items and post there as you list products for sale, such as a board for rugs or turquoise jewellery.Spending an hour or so, depending on how many items you have for sale on eBay, to spruce up your listings will be well worth your time.
8. End old listings and relist
I’m gonna tell you when your listing has a lot of views and then you end it and again relist it (the exact one) it’s going to sell more. yes!! it starts selling again.
https://www.forbes.com
When eBay sees that you have a high number of page views over a long period of time, such as a year, it’s less likely your item will sell because eBay will push it down in search results, says Wells. To bring it back to the top of available items, end the listing and then relist a couple of weeks later.
9. Don’t lower the price of an item when you’ve already sold it at a higher price
Yes, what you’ve heard is true. because in this case, the people who already bought your product with the expensive price will be notified and there is above 50% chance that they’re going to return your product or even open a case. that can make you in trouble and more importantly risk your eBay seller level.
instead, you can promote your items, but never decrease the prices by revising it.
10. At first, you can compromise with less profit then after your product sells more you can increase the price
in this case when the number of “sold items” is getting more & more then it will get momentum and even if you increase the price later nothing bad will have happened and you can make more profit with ease of mind. note that the past customer will also be happy because they already purchased at a lower price :)
11. Leave the buyers Positive feedback and ask them to do so
Once payment is received, the buyer has completed the transaction from his end: Everything else is in your hands. By leaving positive feedback for a buyer you’re giving the impulse to the buyer to do the same in return, thus increasing your chances of getting any feedback at all (it’s no secret that only roughly 50% of buyers leave feedback for sellers).
and in my honest opinion, when you already left positive feedback and badly something bad would have happened like late delivery or …. so the buyers 50% or more will act in a positive way to you.
12. My tips to improve your eBay item description box
as you know eBay description area has got two tabs at the top, one is “standard” tab which is like a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor and another is “HTML” tab for putting your HTML codes or see the Html form of the standard tab.
don’t worry if you can’t put an HTML code of your listings. there is a lot of free eBay HTML generator you can use them.
or
you can even copy the description area of other sellers and paste it on the eBay standard tab and then visually edit it or turn it into the Html tab to view and edit the Html codes.
you can use the Atom text editor and by doing the inspect element of the google chrome browser or any other browser, (Right-click at the description box of your favourite eBay description and select Inspect Element.) you’ll be able to copy the Html source and edit it by a text editor and use it in your Html description area.
- Have images on the description box along with images alt texts.
- all your images links must be in https.
Alt text or alternate text is an attribute added to an image tag in HTML. This text appears inside the image container when the image can not be displayed. It helps search engines understand what an image is about and boost your SEO. alt tag improves the accessibility of your listing and explains your images to people with special needs. Also, remember do not stuff too many keywords into alt tags. Instead, write descriptive and helpful texts that describe the image.
now go over how to add alt text to image in HTML:
<img src=”https://…/smiley.gif” alt=”Smiley face”>
- add the relative keywords you already found and used them into alt tags; plus you can add more relative keywords into alt tag (it’s useful when you couldn’t add more keywords on your listing title and so you can use them in the alt tag.
- Use the h2 h3 h4 tags in the description.
if you would like to use h1 tag, only use one h1 tag in the item description (it can also be the same as the title). - clear description: think as if you are a buyer and want to buy your product to figure out how your description can be better.
- makes your listing responsive. by the link below you can enter your eBay item number to check if it’s responsive
http://www.i-ways.net/mobile-friendly/en-uk/ - also, eBay has added a mobile-friendliness to its description area to check and make your description responsive.
- set the minimum quantity between 3 to 5 for that item or each variation of the item.
- Using the keywords on the item specifications: try to include the keywords while writing the item specification.
- try to use mix and match of your items if it is possible: in this way you have more chance for your product to be seen and luckily end up to the sales.
13. The final tip: my tiny hidden secret which allows you to make more profit even with a lower selling price
Alright so now we’re getting to the end and loads of ♡♡♡ love to you guys and a huge thanks for taking time and reading this. here is my little secret to make more profit.
at the time I was listing on eBay as a freelancer for a company based the UK, I lived in Iran (yes I’m originally from Iran .. !!!) the company paid me with the currency of my country whilst they earned money in GBP.
yes, it was quite unfair. but I was still happy (not completely happy and fulfilled !) but i mean I was totally broke and by the fact that i needed money so in this way, I had been able to both have income and get more experiences. so we can call it as a WIN-WIN business.
so as you know if you’ll able to lower your costs (such as cost of an employee and …) eBay is a good place for you to sell your goods and make profits.
