It did work for me, and I read your article and, more than anything else, just wanted to use your platform to express that. I walked out of the theater thinking that this was the first film in the rebooted franchise that made an effort, with more success than failure in my opinion, to capture the big ideas and optimistic vision of Star Trek, and I’ve been frustrated by the overall critical response that hasn’t given it credit for that.
And I do certainly see your point about the loss of life. If they had done more to honor the people who gave their life to advance the Federation’s vision, it might be a stronger film.
It’s always fun to debate these things. And I’d also like to say that I’ve enjoyed your work on the site and look forward to enjoying more.
