Get Your Message Heard

A few years ago, I felt a stirring deep within that God was getting me ready for something new.

Change isn’t always easy. Overcoming fear or procrastination can make Goliath seem like a cub scout. But like the expression goes, sometimes it’s “Change or Die!”

I wasn’t quite sure what it would look like and where He would lead but it was clear that something new was coming. I knew that God had given me a message to share. Somehow, I had a sense that it would include writing and maybe speaking.

Over the next couple of years, I spent a lot of time seeking God and learning new skills. In many ways, I am still learning and still on that journey. Let me share some of the people and resources that have helped me tremendously.

I attended a workshop with John C. Maxwell and Michael Hyatt about writing and God continued to develop a sense of calling deep within that one of the best ways to get a message out to the people was through writing.

I continued to learn much from Michael through his book, Platform and the Platform University course. I learned so much about the publishing world.

He then introduced me to Jeff Goins who would take the ball and teach me so much more about the craft of writing. I learned by his real-world example of his books (published by Moody Press) and from his direct teaching and support in the Tribe Writers‘ course and community. Jeff has written a free ebook and video that you might enjoy explaining The Writers Roadmap: 12 Steps to Making a Living Writing.

From there, I was introduced to Shelley Hitz from whom I continue to learn about writing, self-publishing, speaking, and online training. Shelley is all about taking action so it’s no surprise that one of her key writing resources is Procrastination to Publication

Her Author Audience Academy has been invaluable as a source of training, encouragement, and support. She has a few totally free resources that might be a good place to begin or continue your writing journey:

With a lot of help, I was able to write and publish my first book designed to help people develop their relationship with God. Time with God: Develop Confidence & Consistency In Your Personal Prayer Life is currently available on in paperback and Kindle formats. I hope to publish a version for the Nook and other readers soon.

Through Shelley, I learned about Felicia Slattery who is a wealth of knowledge, training, and motivation for all things speaking. Even though I’ve been on the radio and on stages since I was nineteen, I am continuing to learn as I develop my teaching and speaking skills even further.

Whether you are just thinking about getting started speaking on stage, a seasoned pro, or looking to learn how to harness the power of video, she can meet you where you are and help develop your skills and influence.

From Felicia’s coaching and resources, I am developing new talks and even developing a workshop for couples who are seriously dating or getting ready for marriage. More details coming soon.

In the meantime, if you need a speaker for a Sunday morning worship service or upcoming conference, retreat, or event, please give me a call or pass on my information to the event planner.

A surprise twist and extra blessing in all of this is that I became a videographer in the process. Don’t think Hollywood blockbuster. Think more like preserving memories and special events, like weddings, milestone birthdays, and other special events. A new website is coming soon but for now, you can visit to learn more.
