The driving question of the week… do digital natives exist? In short the answer to the question in my opinion is no, but to a certain extent. One person cannot be born into a world with knowledge already inbuilt into them. Yeah some people can be taught things easier than others, but no one is born into a world knowing things, like everyone else. which is what is the definition of a digital native, someone being born into something already knowing the ins and outs. People born into a world where technology is dominant, they are not born already knowing how to use it, they need to be taught how to use technology, like everyone else. Although it would be easier for them to learn as they are surrounded by technology, and basically in constant contact with technology.

Thus why teaching needs to evolve to suit the needs of today’s technological advancement. We need to evolve the way we teach and the teaching platforms, to keep up to date and to continue to engage with students. As technology is advancing, physical copies of books are no longer being utilized, people are moving to the digital age and looking online simply because its easier to access and easier to obtain.

So to end the blog post… no, there are no digital natives, everyone has the same capacity to learn, it would just be easier for people who are born into an age where technology is surrounding them to learn how to use it. Thus why we need to change how we teach, and what tools we use to aid in teaching to become more technologically equipped.
