INT. DRAGON’S LAIR
Two thieves have infiltrated a black dragon’s lair. They plan to steal the crown of ascension, a legendary artifact that will make them rich beyond belief.
The crown is within the tower of Castle Harlock, an ancient keep destroyed by the black dragon, OBSIDIAR.
As the two thieves creep through the castle gate, they hear a grumble come from within. VENDROS stands in the keep’s central courtyard to face the dragon while his partner sneaks past and into the tower.
Who would dare enter my lair?
Is this your lair? I’m awfully sorry. I thought this was an empty, ruined castle.
This is the infamous Castle Harlock, which I destroyed, and claimed along with all its riches.
Oh I know its Harlock. I came to have a look around, for it is a remarkable specimen of a keep even in this sorry state. Not many left standing you see, and I’m a fan of architecture.
You have heard of the keep, but not of the one who finally defeated it?
Truly. I had no idea anyone lived here.
OBSIDIAR opens her enormous wings and casts a long shadow across the courtyard, engulfing the thief in darkness.
Well now you know that Obsidiar, the calamity, lady of the night, rules here.
It’s a pleasure to meet you, oh mighty, and terrible Obsidiar.
And who might you be, little human?
My name is Vendros, master thief, at your service.
Master thief? I thought you were a scholar who wished to see my castle?
Alas, that was a necessary deception. Forgive me.
Well master thief, you shall not be stealing anything from my vaults. No one who enters Harlock ever leaves. I’m always happy to feed on the curious, and brave.
My poor, Obsidiar, you misunderstand me. I’m a thief yes, but my mastery is in misdirection. My partner, she does the stealing.
Before the dragon can respond there is a puff of smoke and the thief vanishes before her eyes.
As VENDROS and his partner flee the castle, the crown nestled safely in their pack, the anguished roar of a dragon pierces the night sky.
