SCENE 8

Fade In:

int. coffee shop — day

PAMELA enters the coffee shop with her new partner, JIM. He finds a table for them to sit at while she goes to the counter to order their drinks. She is texting her friend back as she reaches the counter. The barista asks for her.

DWIGHT

What can I get for you today?

PAMELA looks up in shock.

PAMELA

Dwight? Is that you?

DWIGHT

Oh, hey Pamela. How’s it going?

PAMELA

(Stunned)

Erm, fine. You work here now?

DWIGHT

Yeah, I started last week.

PAMELA cannot believe her ex now works in her favorite coffee shop. Confusion, and alarm grip her as she processes this new development.

PAMELA

But I thought you were heading to the West Coast with that game you were making?

DWIGHT

The team kind of fell apart after the kick starter campaign. Couldn’t handle the pressure I guess.

PAMELA

Oh right, I mean that sucks. I’m sorry to hear that. I know it was your dream.

DWIGHT

(Looks down lost in thought)

Thanks, but dreams are for morons…

(Changing the subject quickly)

So yeah since I was staying around here I had to find a new job. So what’ll it be? You still drink latte with vanilla syrup?

PAMELA

Actually I want two chai lattes with soy milk please.

DWIGHT

Wow, alright then. Never took you for a chai kinda girl.

PAMELA

(Sternly)

Things change, Dwight.

DWIGHT

They sure do. Shall I put Pamela on both of these?

PAMELA

No, make one out to Jim.

DWIGHT

Cool.

DWIGHT looks over to the table where JIM sits. He analyses the good looking guy, then turns away to make his ex and her new boyfriend their drinks.
