How To Savor Your Life And Find What Makes You Come Alive
Savor… S-A-V-O-R — what a beautiful word!
It means to enjoy something completely.
I was at a Psych Tech presentation here in Austin earlier this week.
The talk was about Design for Emotions.
The word ‘SAVOR’ came up on the screen. And it got me thinking.
You know, it’s such a rich powerful word. Say it out loud and you feel how much more richly you can live your life.
Yet so often we don’t live with our full attention on what we’re doing. We miss the full rich texture and taste of all the flavors and gifts of our experiences and our relationships.
Let’s say you’re eating cake with a friend. And your mind is caught up in what you’re going to say next — some news or idea you want to share with your friend.
And they say to you “Oh my God, this is such a delicious cake!”

Suddenly you realize you haven’t even tasted the cake. Your mind has been so caught up in what you want to tell your friend.
This happens all the time.
We get so caught up with something we have on our mind. We disconnect from our senses. We stop being present with our body — with all of us in our life. With the totality of our being alive.
And that cuts us off from our source of power.
Knowing what makes us come alive.
As Howard Thurman said so beautifully:
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
But if you don’t take the time to ‘SAVOR’ your life, guess what?
You won’t be able to be aware of what makes you come alive. Because you’re disconnected from your life.
And it’s so easy to do these days. We get caught up in social media, multi-tasking, selfie taking ways of separating from the full richness and true resonance of the moment.
But what if you were to really cultivate your attention to savor each moment.
Even the hard, boring, or crazy making ones.
I believe you would get back a lot of your power to choose and direct your life.
You would get such an intense sense of what really makes you come alive.
And with the greater choice and ways to leverage the world we have nowadays, you would create something awesome!
Are you brave enough to find out?
