“I wake up every day in a house that was built by slaves” — Michelle Obama
From Gavel In to Bernie Sanders, it was a 7-hour presentation of Democratic values with a sharp focus on Trump demonization. Trump, while certainly not in attendance, was mentioned almost as many times as Hillary and probably more than Bernie Sanders.
Building the Case Against Trump and Uniting Democrats
A video clip of a spastic Trump ridiculing disabled New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski introduced the beautiful disability advocate, Anastasia Somoza, a child of immigrants, who spoke eloquently about Hillary’s positive initiatives versus Trump’s bullying. African American military widow, Cheryl Lankford of San Antonio told how she lost the money the military gave her with Trump University. These stories and many others were chosen to unite the party and defeat Trump.
Standouts
New Jersey Senator, Corey Booker, said “Well, I’m from Jersey and we’ve seen the way he leads in Atlantic City. He got rich while his companies declared multiple bankruptcies.” Booker gave a powerful speech with inspired oratory including Maya Angelou’s famous poem, Still I Rise, and themes, “Love triumphs over Hate” (referring to Trump), “Our best days are ahead of us” (channeling Ronald Reagan), and the “Land of the Free”. He eloquently expressed his love of the United States of America and a huge wave of love for Hillary Clinton.
Michelle Obama focused most of her speech on children with many comparisons to Trump. Speaking about hate and bullying — “when they go low, we go high” — she offered the Democratic Party as the high road. She went on to say, “As parents, we are their most important role models. Who will have the power to shape our children for the next four years of their lives? There is only person truly qualified — our friend Hillary Clinton.”
“In this election, I’m with her!”

“You see, Hilary understands. The presidency is about one thing and one thing only, making this country better for our kids.“
“That is the story of this country. I wake up every day in a house that was built by slaves and watch my daughters playing on the White House lawn. And because of Hilary Clinton my daughters and all our sons and daughters take for granted that a woman could be president. Don’t let anyone tell you that this country isn’t great. Because this right now is the greatest country on earth.”
Finale
After a long speech by Elizabeth Warren, much of it about “The great Trump hot air machine”, Bernie Sanders gave his stump speech — this time telling his supporters to vote for Hillary — and it was over.
