Why I use Evernote
There are many reasons why we need to be more productive in our lives today. The number of distractions that we face and the constant need to “multi task” on an hourly basis all work against us and mean we aren’t being as productive as we could be. Or is this just me?
I discovered Evernote as a great productivity tool way back in the summer of 2009 — whilst reading “The 4 Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferriss and decided to investigate it. I can honestly say that I have never looked back since.
Like most people I started on the free version (Evernote Basic) and within the year I upgraded to Premium as there were a number of features that I was interested in using — the biggest was being able to have off-line access to all of my notes when I didn’t have WIFI connectivity.
And that was it! Since then I use Evernote on a daily hourly basis to organise both my work and personal life. Its great for planning, projects, recording information etc, sharing my ideas and thoughts with colleagues and even mundane tasks like writing my shopping list in it. Trust me I would always forget the cat food otherwise…
The current stats are that there are over 200 million Evernote users around the world, with over 5 billion notes created.
Since 2016 I become an Evernote Certified Consultant (ECC). This means that I have been through Evernote’s comprehensive training program and I am now recognised as one of their 500 or so ECC’s globally who provide hands on guidance to teams to get them working more effectively and productively, mainly through Evernote Business.
It is the simplicity and flexibility of Evernote that I love and that has kept me an avid user over the years. It takes just a few minutes to set up Evernote and to create a couple of notes and then a notebook to store them in. But I can say I have never stopped learning just how powerful Evernote can be as a productivity & collaboration tool.
Some of the main reasons that I use Evernote are -
- It works across all platforms — Mac, Windows, IOS, Android.
- Allows you to view your notes across multiple devices.
- Search function allows you to search for text inside images / PDF’s etc.
- Facility to forward important emails into Evernote so my Inbox remains clear.
