Information mining

I heard about Medium through listening to Gary Vaynerchuck. I came across him on FB and ignored what I saw for quite a while, then listened to a YouTube video one day.

This was the first Gary V video I saw. It is brilliant and so I started mining for more.

When I find someone who has got something useful to me, I like to dive in and watch, read, listen to everything they are doing because there are patterns, there are tracks they leave over time that I can learn from. It’s easy to do that today; there is so much on YouTube and a couple of clicks had all four of Gary’s books winging their way to me.

It’s about mining for the good stuff, and the good stuff changes because you are changing. Today I need to know about growing ‘my tribe’, tomorrow who knows. It means that the same stuff can be recycled from time to time because I will hear something different. That is one way, a more fun way is just to dive in to whoever inspires you at the moment. Perhaps there is a greater intelligence that, if (and it is a big if) we just get out of our own way long enough we notice just what we need.

One way to know if you are getting out of your own way is how you feel. If you feel crappy because you are complaining and justifying your story about life you are probably not about to get a great cosmic insight. You might, but I would not hold my breath. If you are feeling quiet on the inside, comfortable in your own skin you are more likely to pick up on what is already there.

It’s probably not that you cosmically attract stuff to you, I have never found that to work, what it is, is that you notice what is already there. If I want a pizza I can sit on my sofa and imagine one being brought to me, and feel really positive about it and say affirmations; or I can pick up the phone. This stuff can be as simple as that.

OK, take away thought — notice who is inspiring you in a direction you want to go and mine them for information. Then when you get a good idea go and do it. It’s like the pizza again, you have to dial the number.
